The Utopia Ecosystem

Utopia is a digital-first beauty ecosystem designed to explore the intersection of beauty, culture, and technology. What started as a vision for an inclusive beauty hub has evolved into a multi-vertical brand comprising Shop Utopia (fashion & product), Utopia Magazine (editorial content), Utopia Hair Lab (beauty education), and Utopia Tech (digital tools).

My goal was to build a brand that didn't just sell products, but created a complete lifestyle universe where aesthetics, education, and community converge.

The Challenge

Building a modern beauty brand requires more than just a logo. The challenge was to create a cohesive brand system that could house distinct verticals (fashion, hair, media, and tech) without feeling disconnected. I needed to:

  • Establish a unified visual identity across different niches.

  • Build a functional e-commerce infrastructure from scratch.

  • Develop a content engine that could sustain organic growth.

  • Execute product drops with limited resources while maintaining a premium feel.

Instead of launching a single product, I treated Utopia as a platform. I developed a shared visual language that anchored all verticals.

  1. Commerce: Leveraging Shopify to build a scalable storefront for physical drops.

  2. Community: Using Utopia Magazine and Hair Lab to drive organic traffic and trust before asking for the sale.

  3. Tech: Laying the groundwork for digital utility (Beauty Bestie AI / G7X Edit) to future-proof the brand.

EXECUTION & VERTICALS

  1. Shop Utopia (Commerce)

I led the end-to-end development of the e-commerce arm.

  • Tech Stack: Built a custom Shopify storefront with optimized product pages, cart flows, and mobile responsiveness.

  • Operations: Managed the entire supply chain for the "Hotter Than Lagos" drop, from tech packs and manufacturing to fulfillment logistics between the US and Nigeria.

  • Lifecycle: Integrated Klaviyo for welcome flows and abandoned cart recovery to maximize revenue.

2. Utopia Magazine (Visual)

The voice of the ecosystem. I established content pillars focusing on "Girlhood," humor, and cultural commentary.

  • Visual Direction: Created a distinct editorial style using bold typography and collage aesthetics.

  • Growth: Developed a recurring series of digital covers and carousels that drove high shareability.

3. Utopia Hair Lab (Education)

A content-led vertical focused on utility and education.

  • Content Production: Filmed, scripted, and edited short-form tutorials (Reels/TikTok) for V-part wigs and styling methods.

  • Funnel: Used educational content to soft-sell physical hair products, building authority before conversion.

What I learned

Building Utopia taught me that brand is system. It’s not just about making things look good; it’s about the operational glue that holds product, content, and technology together. I learned how to pivot quickly, manage inventory logistics, and use data (like Shopify analytics) to inform creative decisions, proving that intuition and data are powerful partners.
